This bug is reported at Ubuntu Launchpad as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xubuntu-meta/+bug/233984 I am running an up-to-date version of Xubuntu Hardy (32bit) on a Dell XPS m1330 laptop. The media hotkeys (touch buttons on the top row over the main keyboard) used to work in Ubuntu Gutsy and Hardy, but they don't work in Xubuntu. Looking at various logs, the system doesn't seem to report key presses for these buttons at all.
