I can't get xfce4-terminal to work.

Here is what I get if I go to /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin (with a gnome console):

---------------------------------------------
# ./xfterm4
./xfterm4: line 76: exec: xterm: not found
---------------------------------------------

I'm using a xfce 4.2 beta 2 installed via the installer script on a mdk 10.0

Doh!

I understood how xfterm4 works: it simply calls an external term. And since for
some reason the TERMCMD variable was empty, it didn't work (and I guess it could
not launch a term by default because xterm did not exist in my system).

Anyway, RTFM
