I use svn for my xfce at several PC's, i am member of the greek translation team and i want to test every commit with greek translation. After svn up to rev 27217 my desktop background disappeared even the configuration for custom background is set. I tried to change to another image, i tried to log off/log on/reboot i even removed my .config .cache .local folders. But nothing seems to work ok.

The second problem i came up to is that i have lost my settings for user interface configuration for theme and icons. I prefer 'Human' theme for both of them, but it seems that i cant change to anything right now.

I am searching at the confs files but there seems everything ok. My current settings have been written correctly but nothing ...

I believe that the problem is at xfce4-session or xfwm4 but i am not sure.
I svn up all my folders from xfce so ... I have the same problems at least 3 different PC's with different distro.

I open a topic at forum asking if anyone else has the same problem, but till now i havent gotten any answers. Plz advice. I can provide what ever info you want.

I have the same problem but when reverting to revision 27170, everything work again (except that I have to change my preference for the icon theme and gtk theme, background and windows border are fine). I guess there is something wrong with 27208 commit (I have the lastest xfconf-svn installed).

i have reverted xfconf to 27170 (thanks Géraud) and the icon/gtk themes worked just fine. But i still can't change the desktop background. I tried to revert all the folders (xfce4-session, xfwm4, etc-etc) but nothing. Any ideas ? Can i provide more info for the developers ?

Your problem is as followed:

xfwm4 is build without the latest patch attached to bug #4065. This means you still need xfce-mcs-manager. When you apply that patch, xfce-mcs-manager is obsolete and can (should) be removed.

The xfce-mcs-manager is replaced by xfconf and xfce4-settings in trunk.

Xfce4-settings is the replacement for xfce4-mcs-plugins. You will have a new 'appearance-dialog' when you install it. This replaces the old 'user-interface-settings'.

xfce4-session starts xfsettingsd in stead of xfce-mcs-manager. xfsettingsd uses xfconf to handle the XSETTINGS.

Solution:
 - patch xfwm4
 - install xfce4-settings
 - use latest xfce4-session

The only bug here is that xfwm4 has not been patched and mcs has not been completely deprecated yet.

ok more info

$ svn info|grep Revision
Revision: 27240

a.
Settings -> Settings Manager -> Desktop Preferences

The desktop background settings doesnt work

But with xfdesktop-settings command, a new Desktop Preferences
that i can change the desktop background but i can't add
a new image at the list. To do that i 've just copied my
personal desktop image to /usr/local/share/xfce4/backdrops/

b.
Settings -> Settings Manager -> User Interface Prefences

The Theme/Icon Theme doesnt work

But with xfce4-appearance-settings command a new Appearance Settings
and now i can change my Themes -> UI Theme/Icon Theme to whatever i want.

so there isnt really a bug, but only misconfiguration ofthe new
(xfce 4.5 GUI settings) to the svn source and Settings Manager.

If only i knew this (without searching for a couple days)
before i "destroy" all my custom desktops with xfce :)

Well, it is a '-development' branch... it is allowed to be broken sometimes.

^_~

The settings-dialog for xfdesktop is indeed not ready yet, when I get to it I'll fix that.
