Description itsanudae mffm 2008-04-03 11:58:48 CEST
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080325 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.13
Build Identifier:

I followed the Thunar Send To menu instructions as well as the Custom Actions instructions. I even copied over the mimetype info from File Roller's .desktop file to squeeze-0.2.3's .desktop file (i compiled this squeeze with a simple ./configure && make && sudo make install). On xubuntu 7.10 gutsy, upgraded to Xfce 4.4.2 via the xubuntu team's PPAs.

I was UNable to get Squeeze to pop open and archive files with any of the above methods. I WANT TO REPLACE File Roller and XArchiver with Squeeze and remove them from my system. I LUV SQUEEZE... It's _CUTE_ (and posting all those extra icons was a FAB idea)

Anyway... back to the point. ...There's no real "documentation" for Squeeze. I would be willing to write some if you can tell me how to integrate Squeeze via the Send To menu in Thunar or as a Custom Action in Thunar, or at least, please refer this bug to the Thunar folks.

It should be available but if not I can be reached at: itsanudae at gmail dot com (sorry for the lack of identity, recent victim of identity theft, so no Real Names from me.)

I'd like to work with you to resolve these issues:
1. Custom Action integration (info so i can DO it and write a how-to)
2. Proper configuration of a .desktop file for Send To Menu Integration (again, so I can DO it and write a how to)
3. Needed info from you/for you to generate an interim how-to, and a more permanent form of documentation for the www.squeeze.xfce.org site.

P.S. I'm lucky enough to have free time and have found Linux, xubuntu, Xfce, and Squeeze. Fun Fun Fun!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Try to add Squeeze as a Custom Action in Thunar (with every config option I can think of, using the metadata flags from %f,%F,%d,%D, with NO SUCCESS.
2.Try to generate a .desktop file for Thunar's Send To menu (using the File Roller .desktop file as a reference) with NO SUCCESS, well LIMITED success. I did manage to get an error then have Squeeze actually open, but I think I modified THAT .desktop file into oblivion without a back up
3. No Documentation adequate to perform these integrations between Sqeeze and Thunar. VERY DISAPPOINTED. :-( Please Help me Help you Help me. (sorry, love word games) </end retarded bug report/feature request/plea for help/volunteerism>

Actual Results:
Fail to:
1. Integrate Squeeze via Custom Action with functional results.
2. Integrate Squeeze via Thunar's Send to menu with a .desktop file in ~/.local/Thunar/SendTo menu (might have that listed wrong, but you get the idea, I did put it in the right place).
3. Find adequate resources via: Google, Xfce wiki, Thunar website, Squeeze website; with appropriate documentation aimed at a newbie to explain step by step the integration process.

Expected Results:
1. I expected the template "Open with Terminal" Custom Action to provide enough info to generate a functional Thunar Custom Action to archive with Squeeze.
2. I expected to find enough info via the functioning file-roller.desktop file that ships with xubuntu to use as a template to build a squeeze.desktop file that would function in Thunar's Send To menu
3. Find adequate walk-through documentation to achieve the following result: select file(s) and/or directoy(ies) in Thunar and either: Create a new archive by passing the data to Squeeze via Custom Action, or Send To menu.

1. Continue to work EASILY (thanks for getting this one dead on accurate) Check!
2. Please post/eMail me with the unpublished required info. I would be willing to generate a beginner's walk-through step-by-step guide document for these two actions.
3. I can be reached at itsanudae at gmail dot com
4. My OS is GNU/Linux/(x)ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy amd64/Xfce-4.4.2/upgraded via xubuntu team PPA's um.. don't know what else you need to know. eMail and ask.
5. My hardware info is available at the following link: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=4629535#post4629535
P.S. I'm elliio/itsanudae and I'm the one who started the post, the signatue lists my hardware.
6. Enlist me for help with Xfce/Squeeze.
7. Glib version 1.2.10-17-build-1 (ubuntu gutsy 7.10 amd64)
8. GTK+ version 2.120.0-1 (ubuntu gutsy 7.10 amd64)
9. Thanks for making Squeeze! It's Cute and Fast, and better than file-roller, Xarchiver or on windows, WinRAR or 7zip-FM.
10. Best, and have a great 2008!

Well, the solution is installing the thunar-archive-plugin. When you set squeeze as the default archiver for opening zip archives (iirc), it should be used as the archiver of choice when clicking on the extra buttons 'create archive, extract archive' which the archive-plugin provides.

Wow, that easy... Boy do I feel like a tard. Thank you for the timely response!

Do you mind posting the command to enter in the Custom Configuration box?

I read the Benedikt Meuller site for the Archive Manager plugin, and it seems easy enough. Maybe Squeeze could put a link on it's page at www.sqeeze.xfce.org/Documentaton to the Archive Manager plugin page... Whom would I nag about getting that added? ;-)

Hi, Stephan,

Your suggestion resolved my issue insofar as making autoarchiving work via the Thunar plugin.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

What is not resolved per my request:

1. How to set up Squeeze with the proper commands to create a Custom Action (for those of us who don't want a plugin (I don't know why, but am thinking of resource starved folks in this). i.e. No Documentation...

2. How to set up Squeeze with the right .desktop file config for a Send To Menu action. The Thunar Documentation failed.

3. The problem of squeeze not having ANY USEFUL Documentation. This could be helped by at least having the --help page explained, I didn't understand it and there wasn't a man page generated by my build of Squeeze. Prob'ly did something wrong. Poopy. Ideas? Let me know.

4. Documentation Resolution for letting people who visit www.squeeze.xfce.org would be to explain that you need the thunar archive plugin, and a link to this helpful page which let me know how to configure and build the plugin to find my installation of Thunar {"./configure --prefix=/usr"} for xubuntu 7.10 Gutsy amd64...

link: http://foo-projects.org/~benny/projects/thunar-archive-plugin/index.html

I don't know how to contact benedikt (I've been awake all night in the usa) so I hope he sees MY BIG THANKS to him on this page or could you be a dear and forward this to him, and the author of Squeeze. Pls. Thx.

When you run squeeze --help you get a list with all the commandline-options, but I agree a better explaination inside the man-page could be added.

You don't want that, the thunar-archive-plugin should suffice.

No, there is NO usefull documentation. If you have hints and/or tips about using squeeze, you could create an entry on wiki.xfce.org for that.

Done.

Check the 'about' dialog of squeeze, I'm sure the author of squeeze has seen this bugreport. :) Regarding benny, I doubt he has seen this report.

The problem with documentation is valid, I agree. I will close this bug, since this issue is solved. Could you please submit a feature-request for documentation on squeeze? Then I won't forget to add it.
