When I change the GTK theme, the panel not shows the changes correctly. When I
kill that and run again, it shows correctly.

What version of gtk and X? Do you use composite extension?

I have GTK+ 2.4.4 and X.org 6.8 with composite extensions activated.

That's what I thought...

XOrg 6.8 or rather the composite extension is not exactly production ready.
There are many redrawing bugs that are related to this.

Unless you also see this with earlier versions of Xorg, I'm going to close this bug.

Issue is with XOrg, nothing we can do about it.
