i have an external usb drive with two partitions (one vfat, one ext2). if i plug it in, an icon pops up in the system tray. clicking on this icon pops up a window with the plugged-in devices (in this case only one). although the usb drive has two partitions, only the first one shows up when i click on the arrow before the device.

Seems i was wrong when i said only the first partition is shown. sometimes it's the first partition, sometimes it's the second, there doesn't seem to be a pattern.

I fixed another bug that might be related to this one. Could you update to current svn trunk (rev 3558 or later) and give another try?

No, the other bug wasn't related, but I tracked down the problem elsewhere.
