Description phil 2004-09-04 14:01:51 CEST
This was reported on the forums - I wasn't aware of this bug tracking system.
Konqueror and the KOffice apps all fail with something like the following shown
in the console :

ICE default IO error handler doing an exit(), pid = 7373, errno = 32

They all load the interface as it is shown on screen, but before you get a
chance to use the application, it quits.

The problem has been present since KDE 3.3b1

ICE is used for both Session Management and DCOP in KDE. The first could be a
problem in xfce4-session or in the kdelibs. The second would definetly be a KDE
problem. Try enabling KDE compatibility in the session management properties
and restart your session.

Enabling the KDE service option in the session management dialog appears to
resolve the issues with CVS from 7th September compiled on a fresh SuSE 9.1
system updated through to the latest of everything including KDE via apt4rpm
and apt-get dist-upgrade.

All is well now. I'd suggest making this either default behaviour or much more
obvious, though, as it would be easily missed by users.

The apps seem to behave like this in the first time you run them, the second
time they act normal. I recall enabling KDE compatibility and it did not seem
resolve the issue. I'm using KDE 3.3 and XFCE 4.2 compiled on Sept. 9th.

Hm, the only reason I can think of, could be that the app responds _really_
slow (which can be the case for KDE apps, cause they first need to fork several
other daemons, like the dcop server, kdeinit, etc.).

The bug seems to be gone with 4.2beta2.

Thanks a lot.
