I right-click on the volume control plugin in the xfce4-panel, and as soon as I
click "Properties", the volume control slider on the panel is set to zero,
though the sound does not really get muted. I can't change the volume using
this plugin until I restart the panel. When I start it from the console, I get
the same message lots lots of time:

** (xfce4-panel:896): CRITICAL **: file vc_oss.c: line 210 (vc_get_volume):
assertion `mixer_handle != -1' failed

Additional information:

I'm using cvs version of Xfce4.
Comment 2 dannym editbugs 2004-08-26 18:14:58 CEST
that means it cannot open the mixer device.

When you do not enter properties, it works normally ?
Comment 3 Jasper Huijsmans editbugs 2004-09-22 14:28:56 CEST
Reducing the severity to minor, because it sounds like a configuration issue to me.

Reporter, please try to provide us with a little more information.
