User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061201 Firefox/2.0.0.1 (Ubuntu-feisty)
Build Identifier:

It would be nice to be able to set my orage clock plugin to the time, and have the date as my icon in the notification area. Right now it's a bit of wasted screenspace to have orage available as both the clock and as an icon that doesn't really show me anything new.

If it's too hard to make a changing icon, maybe the icon could at least be changed to show no number? It's a bit misleading.

This sounds really negative, but I bug because I love! Cheers.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open orage
2. look at icon
3.

Actual Results:
"31"

Expected Results:
the number should be changed to show the current day

This is running orage 4.4.0 on a development version of Xubuntu Feisty 7.04.

Well, there is an option to use dynamic icon in Orage 4.4.
But as it is "trial level code", it is "hidden". The idea is to make it
work better in next version;feedback welcome!

You can set this feature only manually in 4.4. It is documented in the help in
Undocumented Features section:
Some hidden options allow you to customize orage behaviour. You can find and change those in ~/.config/xfce4/orage/oragerc.

Use Dynamic Icon: setting these x and y sizes to nonzero causes orage to use dynamic icon, which has real month day number in it. It also lists orage in the top and month name at the bottom if those fit in. orage tries to fit all those three pieces of information in the available icon size using proper fonts, but if there is not enough space, top and bottom texts can be omitted. Finally orage switches to static icon if not even the number fits into the icon. Good values to test with are 32 (like X=32 Y=32).

Please, try this and let me know if it is what you need? (And remember to stop
Orage before modifying the oragerc file, because Orage overwrites it when it
is shutdown.)

Btw, is there a way to get the old icon back ?
Comment 3 juha editbugs 2007-01-31 17:56:27 CET
Hmm. not quite sure which icon you mean.
If you want to get rid of this new dynamic icon, you jsut have to set those
X and Y values to 0 (manually editing the rc file).
If you want Xfce 4.2 icon back, you need to manually copy it somewhere and
replace current "31" icon with it. Should work.
Or did you mean something else?

The X and Y values in the .config/xfce/orage/oragerc file actually correspond to size.

Is this possibly a freedesktop thing where you could read the size of the gnome, xfce, or kde panel instead of specifying our own size.

Maybe Aries should try to change x and y back to 0 in the rc file? I agree that the dynamic day icons are not very pretty. Maybe some Tango-like affection can be shown down the road.

I'm leaving the bug open as there is no UI to the user for this yet and it is not default, but I'll gladly use it for the next little while on my PC and will let you know how it goes.

My problem is solved.

I just updated to the newest SVN revision and there I can set the size of the dynamic icon to 0 in the settings dialog to use the static icon. Thanks guys.
