Though it worked before updating to xfce 4.4, now it doesn't even work with xfce4-mixer-4.3.99.2. The mixer dialog is empty, the sound configuration dialog provides no master in the select box, and the mixer plugin seems to work but doesn't affect the system audio volume. The only extra things I did were updating Hal to 0.5.8.1, because exo complained about it, and udev to 0.102, because Hal complained about it.

Started from console, xfce4-mixer doesn't show any debug messages. However, I tried to install it with oss support, which isn't given on my system, and got assert messages complaining about the missing master. If this messages do not appear when xfce4-mixer is compiled with alsa-support, this should mean that the driver is detected correctly, doesn't it?

alsamixer and xine work fine, by the way.
