i think it would look better, when the combobox for selecting the desired archive type would be in the same line as the archive's new name, so that the selected type already looks like the file's extension. see file-roller's "create" dialog.
It will behave differently in 0.2.0, it will not contain the extention. It will contain the mime-type descriptions. appending the extention to the filename will go automatically if the filename in the text-field is not already supported by libsqueeze. Example: text = "test.tar" => squeeze creates an archive called test.tar, even if the combo-box is set to 'zip archive'. text = "test.doc" => squeeze creates an archive called test.doc.zip if the combo-box is set to 'zip archive' However, the downside: if rar support is not available, the entry "text.rar" will result in "text.rar.zip". Changed priority to very high since current svn does not have a working create dialog and this should be in the release.
I think it is fixed, you?
i still think that the way the dialog looks in file-roller is better. it has the name entry followed by the combobox which does not hold something like "compressed tar archive" but the extension for example ".tar.gz". this way those two widgets look exactly like the filename of the new archive, which i think is better. of course this is only my opinion and you don't have to do it this way, i just want to give feedback ;)
Ok, then i will re-open this bug-report. Hopefully we can get some other people their opinion about this matter.
squeeze is not maintained anymore, closing.
