Description Mathias Brodala 2006-12-18 21:19:47 CET
User-Agent: Opera/9.10 (X11; Linux i686; U; de)
Build Identifier:

The »Audio« tab in the file properties currently only shows wrong characters or replacements for characters with multiple bytes as present in Unicode.

                    Thunar shows: 02. 導きの蒼.mp3
Media-Tags-Plugin shows as title: ±«Ì

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Take a media file with tags encoded in UTF-8 (for example).
2. See the wrong characters
Actual Results:
Displays characters as damaged.

Expected Results:
Characters should be decoded and displayed correctly.

I can't reproduce this here. I copied the characters from your example, entered them as the title in audacious (XMMS successor) and saved the audio file. I then opened the properties page in Thunar. The plugin displayed them properly.

From what I remember the strings passed from TagLib are not manipulated at all, they're only copied and handed over to the GTK+ widgets.

Where the tags encoded in UTF-8? (I did use Audacious for a pretty long time but
don’t think that it does so.)

I can send you the URI to one of my audio files so that you can check them on
your system.

This bug seems to be caused by wrongly encoded tags. Using Ex Falso I can fix them manually which makes Thunar display them correctly. Thus, Thunar does not seem to be at fault here.
