Request: add an option to the "Window manager tweaks" to disable drawing shadows on panel objects.

I have a panel on top of each screen which drop a shadow on each window, which isn't very appealing to the(/my) eye... ;)

Beryls has such a feature and it looks very nice that way!

Cheers!

Harold.

I'd prefer not to add yet another option. So I'd prefer to go one way or the other, but we'll have to make a choice. I don't have any strong opinion.

I agree with Harold about panels at the top of the screen with drop shadows on all window titles not looking very nice, so I think not drawing the shadows for the panel might be the best option. But, I don't feel strongly about this either.

Panels are docks, docks are always on top, and it's more realistic to have shadows on objects place above, IMHO.

Yes, that's certainly the most consistent point of view. I think I can live with that ;-)

I tend to think of panels as 'margins' and that application windows are always 'closer' to the user...

But then again, I don't see the xfce-menu as popup, but more as a regular window...

So it's probable my vision which is blurred...

Rev. 24105 removes shadows from dock-type windows.

Thanx!

Maybe this can be configurable for future releases (4.4+)? There probably are a lot of users who did like the shadows...

Cheers!

Harold.

I'm not too happy with making everything and anything configurable... I guess ppl will have to live with it that way.

I see your point, but could you provide a patch which can enable the old behaviour again for those who liked it? Although I’m not using the compositor at the moment, I found shadows for panels more realistic and plastic.

An option has been added for that purpose in xfwm4 trunk.
