"Open Terminal Here" not available for current folder when using a list view ...
Status:
RESOLVED: DUPLICATE

Description Aries-Belgium 2006-10-17 15:35:23 CEST
The "Open Terminal Here"-command is only available if you can right-click in a whitespace of the files-window. When there isn't any whitespace you can't right-click to open Terminal because then you get the file context menu. Maybe it's a good idea to include "Open Terminal Here"-commmand in the toolbar or in the View menu.

Moving to 1.0.0final.

The wider scoped generic version of this bug is bug 3386 "To allow right click directory-context-menu for long detailed list"

I'm pondering to include menu items created by plugins in the "File" menu. Would this be a satisfying solution to your problem?

Is this bug still valid?

Using Thunar-1.6.3: yes.

Cleaning up this report a bit. Thunar developers, please decide if you want to support this feature, else close the report.

This should probably qualify for an easybug, though: what's needed is to provide a menu entry for files that reads "Open Terminal Here" and opens the parent folder, and for folders that reads "Open Terminal Here*" and opens the selected folder.

* it should really be "in folder" and not "here", but let's keep it consistent with the current grid view implementation and change the strings throughout in a separate report.
Comment 7 Steve Dodier-Lazaro editbugs 2015-03-01 18:13:12 CET
Looking up other similar reports and current Thunar, I can see that "Open Terminal Here" is indeed available when clicking on files. Only the current folder is unreachable.

it might be best *not* to provide a "Open terminal here" for *files*, because that's confusing (am I opening the folder or running the file).

If the feature described in 2946 was implmeneted, the current folder would be reachable when using a "buttons" location selector. I'm rescoping this report towards the "toolbar" location selector since that's the only issue left that needs covering.

A proposed fix: to add a "Open Terminal Here" button at the right of the toolbar along with the "Refresh" button. That's rather small and unobstrusive in daily use, yet readily available for regular feature users.

this bug has the wrong title. it should be called "open terminal here" not available in file objects only in folder objects

Steps to reproduce:

---Right Click---
right click on a file = "open terminal here" missing
right click on dir = OK
right click on some free space (not available in the detailed list view) = OK

---Menu/File---
select a file and click on Menu/File = "open terminal here" missing
select a directory and click Menu/File = OK
nothing is selected and click Menu/File = OK
