thunar showing fallback icons even when xfce-mcs-manager is running

- Thunar displays the fallback icons even when xfce-mcs-manager is running. See screenshot in the URL above.

(from the FAQ at: http://thunar.xfce.org/pwiki/documentation/faq)

bash-3.00$ ps -ef |grep shilpa |grep xfce-mcs
  shilpa 7327 1 0 22:13:56 ? 0:03 xfce-mcs-manager

- The "show desktop" icon does not show up on the top left (might be related to the above problem?)

- The settings manager has weird icon labels for the different applications: "Button Label|Window Manager" etc...

Make sure xfce-mcs-manager is running (which seems to be the case according to your screenshot) and the selected icon theme includes mime icons with either the gnome mime icon names or (starting with Thunar 0.4.0) with mime icon names following the icon naming spec. Examples for such icon themes are Rodent, GNOME, Tango, etc.

Also make sure your icon cache for the icon themes is up2date (-> gtk-update-icon-cache).

I had to manually go and create gtk-icon-theme-name = "Rodent" in my ~/.gtkrc-2.0. That seemed to make some of the things work now. How come this isn't the defulat or why doesn't it work out of the box? :)

Couple of follow up questions:

1) How do I select Icon Themes? I see no such application in the Settings Manager. Where does one set/select this?

2) I still see the "Button Label|File Manager" or "Button Label|Window Manager" names in the Settings Manager.

3) In the Desktop Preferences -> Behavior I only see "minimized applications icons" and "None" as selectable options. I don't see some of the other options as some people have told me about (to put icons on desktop etc...)

Got any hints for that? Thanks... sorry I know this is not really relevant to Thunar and I should hit the xfce User mailing list for these... but these might be bugs. :) I am running Xfce in a unique Solaris thin client environment.

It should work out of the box (Rodent is the preselected icon theme in Xfce).

In the User Interface preferences (the ui_plugin provided by xfce-mcs-plugins).

Which version of Xfce?

Thunar must be built prior to xfdesktop, as xfdesktop requires Thunar to display file/launcher icons on the desktop.

Resolving to INVALID as its not a bug in Thunar.
