Description Chris Moore 2006-06-05 23:34:54 CEST
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060523 Ubuntu/dapper Firefox/1.5.0.3
Build Identifier: 4.3.90.1svn+r21874-0ubuntu1

When I ask the 'desktop preferences' dialog to stop managing my desktop, it makes a big fuss about how I need to save my session, or the setting will be lost. However, when I later ask it to start managing my desktop again, it doesn't remind me to save the session.

When I first installed XFCE a long time ago I stopped it managing the desktop. Then recently I decided I would try using desktop icons again, so I ran Settings -> Desktop Settings and checked "Allow Xfce to manage the desktop". It worked until I rebooted, at which point Xfce was no longer managing the desktop.

It turned out that I needed to save the session - something that I never do, since my session is the way I like it already. It would be good if a warning was displayed when asking Xfce to manage the desktop, saying that I need to save the session to make the change permanent.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. run Settings -> Desktop Settings
2. uncheck "Allow Xfce to manage the desktop" if it's not already unchecked, dismissing any dialog that pops up
3. check "Allow Xfce to manage the desktop" and notice the lack of a warning about needing to save the session to make the change permanent

The dialog has the normal "Do not show this again" checkbox. If you wanted it to remind you later, you shouldn't have checked it when you dismissed it the first time.

I think you have misunderstood me.

When you *uncheck* the "Allow Xfce to manage the desktop" checkbox, there is a warning dialog telling me that I need to save my session. There is a "do not show me this again" setting on that warning dialog, which I didn't check. So far, so good, however that's not what I'm trying to report.

The bug I'm reporting is that when you *check* the "Allow Xfce to manage the desktop" checkbox, there is no warning dialog telling me that I need to save my session. I think there should be, otherwise the change I make (telling Xfce to manage the desktop) is lost when I log out.

Fixed.

Which version was this fixed in?

It's still broken in 4.3.99.1-1 (debian unstable).

4.3.99.2. You're a version behind.
