Description marco giumelli 2006-06-02 09:14:22 CEST
I Installed Xubuntu (6.06 release candidate) one week ago.
I have a problem using the keyboard under xfce on my notebook: Acer TravelMate 4000 wlmi.
Processor Intel Pentium M 710 (1.4 GHz
Ram 512 Mb
Video Ati Mobility Radeon 9700.
under xfce I can't type correctly letters.
I must press more times buttons to enter a single letter, sometimes I press a button and more than a single letter is visualized.
To test if the problem was xfce or other I made this tests:
Reconfigure xorg --> no changes (the keyboard is a p89, language it)
using terminal whitout starting xfce --> the keyboard works properly
Installed iceWM, logout from xfce, login in iceWM, the keyboard works properly (actually I am posting from iceWM).
I hope this mail is helpful for you.
If you want to see the topic on the italian forum where I discussed (sorry, in Italian) the problem with some linux users you can visit:

bye.

Can you try this, from icewm:

- Open an xterminal and type
- xset r rate 500 70

Do you see any weird behaviour?

Ok, resolving.

Humm sorry, just to make it clear, I believe this is an issue between Xorg and your laptop specifically, beaause xfce does set the keyboard repeat rate, while icewm which is just a window manager doesn't (that's why you don't see it in icewm).

BTW, I was not asking to try from xfce specifically, but just to try the xset command.
