some users report that backdrops that look ok in other apps at 16bpp do not in
xfdesktop

I can confirm that this still happens in 4.4b1. That is, the backdrop isn't being dithered, every color is rounded to the nearest available one.

Ok, I just changed backdrop handling again to fix a different bug.  This should be more or less how it was working after I fixed *this* bug for the first time.  Can someone check in SVN?  Unfortunately I didn't get it in time for beta2.

Never mind, I checked myself, and the problem was still there.  But it should be fixed now, and drawing might even be a little faster.
