User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060502 Ubuntu/dapper Firefox/1.5.0.2 Build Identifier: xfce4-terminal_0.2.5+r21256 xfce4-terminal creates a symlink in /usr/bin named "Terminal" which conflicts with other apps with the same same symlink. Sombody needs to change and since xfce-terminal is the newest of them (the others are from GNUStep which has been around as long a dirt), I figured you were the logical choice for a symlink name change. Besides this name you use now is a recent development anyway (or so I've been told). Hey! I have an idea. Gnome-Terminal's symlink in user bin is "gnome-terminal" Konsole's symlink in /usr/bin is "konsole" Eterm's symlink in /usr/bin is "Eterm". Why not change xfce4-terminal's symlink to uhhh.. xfce4-terminal? Consitant eh? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install xfce4-terminal 2.Then insttall terminal.app 3.Observe error message due to symlink conflict. Actual Results: Error message stating terminal.app already had that symink Expected Results: Normal installation, just like all the other terminal apps.
Ehm, the app is named "Terminal" so a binary name of "Terminal" makes sense, doesn't it? The Debian/Ubuntu package is named "xfce4-terminal" currently, and IIRC Ubuntu installs a "Terminal" symlink for compatibility with existing apps/scripts (otherwise you'd need to patch each and every app/script that invokes Terminal), so that makes sense as well. I suggested to add an explicit conflict with Terminal.app for now (GNUstep is not necessarily something one finds on many computers today, and if somebody really wants both GNUstep and Xfce, he'll need to decide which terminal emulator is more valuable for him). In either case this is a Debian/Ubuntu problem and has nothing to do with the upstream version.
Have a nice day! :-)
