Hmm, I think it might be a bug in python-distutils-extra, actually.
Do you happen to know if python-distutils-extra has a maintained bug tracker? It seems that nobody is using the old launchpad account anymore, and the salsa instance where I managed to find newer releases (very well hidden) doesn't have a bug tracker.
