Noticed this directly after I upgraded from Xubuntu 18.04 to 20.04 since I had gotten used to the old way.

When I open the menu, then start typing to search for a program, for instance "Soft" to see 'Software' and 'Software & Updates', and then press the down arrow key on my keyboard to go to the second option, this new version seems to ignore my first down key press. The second one works.

Some more info: The issue as reported happens in the list view mode.

When I switch to icon view mode it actually seems to ignore my first two down key presses, only the third one takes.

I also noticed this behavior.

This is the result of fixing bug #16097. Reverting commit 2ab1c54ff4e1194d4c209d63977c5cfc0bb1cc68 changes the behavior back to what it was before, but then it doesn't select the first item with some themes. Also without that commit, icon view skips the first item when you press the down arrow with some themes.

Icon view takes at least two key presses for some reason that I haven't figured out, and three with commit 2ab1c54ff4e1194d4c209d63977c5cfc0bb1cc68.
