Rather than searching every localized version of the Name, Comment, GenericName, and Keywords, it should only search the current locale that is set.

Presently i'm searching for 'date' in english and its showing the entry for qbittorrent as it has 'Comment[de]=Über BitTorrent Dateien herunterladen und teilen'

That's not what is happening, as it already only searches the current locale. The search is quite thorough and checks individual letters (so that you can match things like "firefox" with "ff", or "web browser" with "wb"). What it is matching is the English comment "[D]ownload [a]nd share files over Bi[t]Torr[e]nt".

Thanks for the clarification. Is there a means for a user/distro to turn off this behaviour, as it seems quite strange.

No, sorry, there is no way to disable that. I added it very early on as it was a popular request, so it doesn't seem that strange to me (and I based it on other application launchers at the time).
