Menu path in gimp to demonstrate what I mean

I would love for the right click menu to have a filter option, which expands to another menu containing "images", "audio", "hidden", etc. and each of those expands to be more specific still e. g. "html", "png", "*rc". After a filter is chosen, it could be removed with a right click and another filter, or simply clicking the original option.

Thanks for reporting !

I generally would agree that a filter-feature would be nice, though what you propose (a multi-tree) looks very complex.
E.g. it's not that easy to tell programmatically which file-types belong to the category "image", "archive", etc. .. and I dont want to maintain lists.

I would keep it more simple .. e.g. you could write .png into a filter text field. That would show you all .png files.
Like e.g. dolphin currently does.

I dont think that a filter feature would be used often enough to justify a place in the - already crowded - context menu. IMO should be sufficient to access filtering via the menu (or via shortcut)

Since we already have a bug regarding a filter feature, I will close this one.

Patches on the original bug would be very welcome !
(I will not have time to work on it in the near future)
