Created attachment 9547 mockup of how it would look As xfce allows the use of multiple compositors, it would be good to have an easy means to switch between them in Window Manager Tweaks.
Created attachment 9550 screenshot of mintdesktop Linux Mint has an mintdesktop app which provides this functionality. http://packages.linuxmint.com/pool/main/m/mintdesktop/
I am not in favour of something like this for various reasons. 1. Xfce comes with its own panel, window manager, compositor managers, etc, we cannot support other components from outside xfce, we simply have no resources upstream to investigate issues affecting random combinations of software components, that's what downstream (i.e. distributions) does and does well (much better than upstream anyway). 2. Why stop at the compositor? You could argue that we should also make it easier to replace the file manager, the panel, the window managers, etc. So it is a no from me, but of course as you pointed out, downstream are free do do whatever they want.

Not sure this is what is being requested here. All that is being requested is to list the compositors installed on a user's system. Bugs in those compositors wouldnt be reported upstream. Or am i missing something. > 2. Why stop at the compositor? Theo mentioned on IRC that the entire dialog was just for Xfce's window manager, so then it makes sense that this wouldnt wouldn't be suitable.
