When there are multiple output (this could apply to input as well) devices, the popup-menu volume slider or my keyboard's volume control does not always adjust the device I want. Usually in my case I am using either on-board audio or a USB headset. If the plugin could detect which device has an application attached (or even better, which device is currently outputting or inputting audio) and adjust that device, this would be very convenient. Obviously if multiple streams are playing on multiple devices it becomes less obvious which device to adjust -- maybe in this case, the current behavior could be used. Thanks for your consideration!
I wrote a small python tool that basically does this - it watches for volume input events and adjusts all active sinks' volumes at the same time. It solves the problem for me, but maybe this would not suit everyone.
