Created attachment 9512 example of what is possible and what is intended to be possible The panel has the fixed icon size property to set this value globally for the entire panel, but a number of panel items have the ability to set a different icon sizes for the item and it would be nice to be able to set this different icon size to panel items that dont give you the option to set it - e.g. Whisker Menu, Window Buttons, Show Desktop, Power Manager, Pulse Audio, Launcher
Created attachment 9551 mockup Its likely better to be able to set the icon size at the panel level, so this can be achieved by the addition of a icons tab to the profile properties dialog.
So first of all this seems to be a bugreport in the wrong place. You would have to create bugreports for each of the plugins that you would want to have custom icon sizes for. Secondly, I would really disagree that each plugin should have this feature. I really hate settings overkill and this sounds just like it.
The most crucial is for system tray icons to all have the same size, so is it okay to submit reports to be able to set the icon size for power manager, pulseaudio and status notifier?
Simon, panel preferences already allow to adjust icon size for the plugins via the Panel Preferences > Appearance > Icons (fixed icon size: ). I think what Jay is asking is to add a setting in there that allows to adjust Status Notifier and Notification area icon sizes.
The notification area and status notifier both have such a setting already - no other plugin specific settings are in the panel preferences dialog and that's a good thing. Furthermore the statusnotifier plugin is not bundled with the panel, so you cannot expect that it's there...
no worries. We were just discussing this in #xfce-dev and I got it wrong. I might have a workaround for the pulseaudio and xfpm plugins to keep a fixed size when panel size increases, that is used by other icon themes... it's not pretty but I will not bother you with this till after the xubuntu release :)
