Created attachment 8849 Notification overlapping panel I'm currently using Xfce but with i3 as WM instead of Xfwm. In this setup the notification window doesn't take into account the panel at the top of the screen, so it overlaps it. I don't know if this is i3 or Xfce4-notifyd's fault but in any case, having the possibility to set a vertical and a horizontal shift for the notification position would solve my problem while also adding a (possibly) useful feature.
Have you set the xfce4-panel to "Reserve space on borders"? (it's in the settings dialog as "Don't reserve space on borders" and has to be *unchecked*.) Otherwise the panel already sets so-called struts which limit the available space for other applications - like notifyd's windows - in order to prevent overlapping. So nothing should have to be done on xfce4-notifyd's side. I can confirm that the panel's size is always taken into account - at least with Xfwm4.
Created attachment 8854 LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings - Window position
Yes, "Don't reserve space on borders" is unchecked. I guess it might be a matter of how i3 handles panels then. Actually, panels are handled pretty vaguely in i3 (always at top or bottom, forced to full screen width, not hideable (at least using the xfce4-panel feature)). Anyway, I think this would be a nice additional feature for xfce4-notifyd. If compatible with how the positioning is currently handled it would be great if the notification position could be specified more or less like the LightDM GTK+ Greeter Settings allows to position the login window (screenshot attached). But I guess this would not be trivial to implement in any case.
