Steps to reproduce:
1 - Run exo-desktop-item-edit --display $DISPLAY --create-new ~
2 - Type some gibberish on the Name filed (e.g. "aaaa")
3 - Copy that text
4 - Switch to a text editor and paste (it works)
5 - Dismiss the Create Launcher dialog (pressing esc or cancel button)
6 - Switch back to the text editor and notice that you can't paste anymore

This is actually a troublesome GTK bug that plagues several other projects. It doesn't have a simple resolution. See related bug on Launchpad:
