The autotools generated files generated for all the xfce4 packages are
generated with libtool 1.5

This breaks arm on linux due to a libtool bug which was fixed in version 1.5.2
of libtool.

I'd really appreciate it if you could use libtool 1.5.2 in future to generate
your auto* files as it would make my life easier (as the guy that's most
probably going to put the packages in Debian again).

http://people.debian.org/~keybuk/libtool-pass_all.html explains the issue a
bit.

See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=190569
and http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=191133
for some real life failures (not with xfce4)

I was talking about this on IRC with benny and he suggested I file a bug here.

Mixed feeling about this;

1) I've updated the GNU toolchain we use because of a bug that was preventing
our binaries from working on AMD64, and that one works now
2) Changing the toolchain on a stable release is not something I enjoy
3) Running autogen.sh prior to packaging the Debain package for ARM shouldn't
be too much of a trouble IMO.

I can understand 2 and I guess there probably aren't many people running xfce
on arm linux.

Have you just patched libtool 1.5? Does the patch apply to 1.5.2?

If you don't want to do it then I'll have to for Debian. It's just if you do
then there's less work for me :-)

For the development branch though, I'd really like you to do this.

This has been done for the dev branch hasn't it? I should think you're
welcome to close this bug.
Comment 4 Olivier Fourdan editbugs 2004-07-10 22:03:16 CEST
Both branches actually, xfce 4.0.6 is imminent and uses a more recent libtool.

Ok, I assume this is fixed now. Please reopen if it's not.
