Created attachment 8314 Screenshot explanation Hi all, Would you want to consider an optional setting for xfce4-terminal to make its background white or dark, depending on whether the chosen GTK theme is dark or bright? That would provide an additional level of consistency. I am attaching a screenshot that hopefully better describes what I am aiming for. Thank you! ❤
Hi Robert, I think this is an interesting idea but I'm not sure how to determine whether a theme is "dark" or 'bright"?
Hi Igor, Thanks for replying so quickly! 👍😄 That's a good question, indeed. Maybe we can find out how Window Manager > Default does it? Because I noticed that it automatically adapts its colours based on the chosen GTK theme.
Yeah, a theme does define colors for window decorations and common elements like menubar or tabbar, but it cannot set colors for app-specific elements, such as the terminal background. On the other hand, how often do you change between bright and dark themes? I mean, if it doesn't happen too often, you can adjust your text and background colors manually...
Good remarks, Igor! > On the other hand, how often do you change between bright and dark themes? I mean, if it doesn't happen too often, you can adjust your text and background colors manually... I tend to use a bright theme during the day and a dark one in the morning / at night. I switch themes automatically using a script and crontab. But I agree with you, it's a very nichy use case, I guess...🤔
Robert, please see bug #14808 - would that satisfy your needs?
Igor, I think it does. Thanks so much! 😍🤗
