XFCE is unable to save any customized Preferences if the Homedir is mounted via
NFS, you can customize for one Session, but xfce-mcs-manager errors with
"Operation not Supported"

Steps to reproduce:

Mount the Homedir from an FreeBSD-NFS-Server according to the FreeBSD-Handbook:
http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/network-nfs.html
Then startx with the usual .xinitrc, customize some settings and save them,
watch the console output.

btw. XFCE Version is 4.4 build from the Ports, the problem was with 4.2 though.

Sorry, I run xfce with my homedir on NFS w//out the slightest problem at work
(so do quite a few others too), so I think the problem is elsewhere.

Cheers,
Olivier.

Do have any mount-options set?
My setup's pretty much copy'n'pasted from the FBSD-Handbook, so I'm not to
sure what's wrong here, espacially since all other apps I'm runnig behave ok.

I just double and triple checked everything I can think of and I still think
this is some kind of error on the side of xfce, since no other programm behaves
similar or errors when writing to the NFS-directory.
Strange enough the problem just occours when trying to write the change of the
background image, all other settings (e.g. menu items, taskbar, etc.) are fully
functional, also this seems to be an FreeBSD specific problem, but it's
definatly reproducible and I had contact to some other people with the same
problem. I do have a trace of mcs-manager available if somebody's intressted
in working on it.
It's also no problem at all if you need aditional Informations about the
specific setup.

Just wanted to add that the xfce4-menueditor errors with something similar,
when trying to save to the NFS-Directory:

I/O error : Permission denied
I/O error : Permission denied

(yes, double)
I have heard that this Problem just occours when both the NFS-Server and the
NFS-Client run FreeBSD.
I don't wanna annoy you to death, but I'm pretty sure that this is some fault
on the side of xfce since I'm able to reproduce it on various machines with
plain vanilla installs of everything.

Cheers

We're not using any nfs specific code, and, correct me if I'm wrong, nfs is
supposed to behave like a regular file system.

So, if there is a problem, which I don't doubt, it seems to me like it is in
libc read / write functions and nfs server/client interaction, not in Xfce.

Does anyone else have an idea on this bug? Benedikt?

Ok, resolving this with WORKSFORME. We had no other reports and can't reproduce.
Please reopen if you have more information.
