Screenshot of error

Running Ubuntu 18.04 and have Gnome Desktop installed. Found that it was too resource hungry for the server and so looked to move to a lightweight desktop and installed xfce.

The default file manager is Thunar. Problem is, no one can use it to access their home directory.

The get the error message (screenshot attached)

Failed to open directory "username".
Error when getting information for file "/home/username/thinclient_drives": Transport endpoint is not connected.

Nautilus which is still installed does not have this as a problem.

Thunar is 1.6.15 and it says it is the latest version.

Some the home directory is mounted via some mountpoint ?

Possibly some old gvfs bug. Does this one help ?

sudo umount ~/.gvfs

( From here: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1909971 )

.. on the other hand, as well Nautilus uses gvfs.

Here something else to try:

Hi, think I figured it out and might be related to another Thunar bug.

No, the home directory is just a standard home directory and not mounted.

We are using MS Remote Desktop to get onto the Ubuntu system using xrdp and it mounts a thin client directory to the home directory. This apparently is used when you copy and paste files using MS RD/xrdp.

My understanding of looking at other Thunar bugs is that it is not friendly with mounted directories?

Currently having to use something else as Thunar is impossible to use with this.

Sure, there are some bugs related to mountpoints, however speaking for myself, I never had much mountpoint problems with thunar.

I cannot reproduce a bug which involves "MS Remote Desktop", I dont have any WIndows running.

However it looks like you can configure xrdp to create "thinclient_drives" folder somewhere else, or even prevent its creation:

https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/issues/218

Sorry, this would only be a workaround, I only can fix stuff which I can reproduce.

Thanks, I had seen that in my research. We have used several file managers and this problem only occurs on Thunar.

The way to create it is to have an Ubuntu system with xfce4 installed
Install xrdb and have it running
Using MS Remote Desktop Connection on either a Windows or Mac and use that to connect to the ubuntu system
Start thunar

and as your home directory is the default, you get the error.

We've had to move from xfce for a number of reasons, not just this one.

Good luck
