The terminal's dropdown opacity setting makes everything transparent (the menubar, the terminal itself along with its contents, the tabs bar, etc). Instead, it should only affect the background, like the transparency setting under Appearance does. Terminal version 0.8.7.4, part of XFCE version 4.12 installed from Fedora 29 64bit netinstall disc.
That's the entire purpose of keeping the two settings separate - their behavior is different from one another. You can still use the setting under Appearance if you need transparency only for the terminal widget in drop-down mode.
I know I can use the setting under Appearance. This is what I am currently doing. However, I'd like to have the transparency only on the dropdown terminal and since there is such an option, I would like to be able to use it. It may have a purpose in which it is helpful or desirable for everything to become transparent, but maybe we can get a checkmark whether it should affect everything or just the background?
