Thunar hangs when trying to disconnect from an sftp connection that has been ...

Description Antti Savolainen 2018-11-01 20:32:03 CET
Description: I have been forgetting to close sftp connections before closing the lid on my laptop several times and the VPN tunnel closing causes Thunar to become quite dysfunctional. This can also be triggered by manually closing OpenVPN before disconnecting the sftp connection.

Steps to Reproduce:
    Open a VPN tunnel
Make an sftp connection to a server behind the VPN
    Close the VPN tunnel
Try to close the sftp connection using the eject button

Expected result:
Thunar should disconnect from the connection gracefully. A popup error notifying you that that the connection was shut down unexpectedly would be nice

Actual results:
Thunar hangs for several minutes before the timeout period finally frees the process. A further problem is that after reopening the VPN, you are unable to use the bookmarks you have made to that IP address and you have to resort to manually entering it in the address bar

Extra info:
This is a problem with thunar and not gvfs. When the same test is done with nautilus, it allows for a graceful unmounting by asking if you'd like to unmount it anyways.

Thanks for the detailed bugreport !

Sorry, I have to say that I will not be able to take a look at it soon ... already too much other thunar bugs on my personal TODO List :/

If you are motivated / if you want to speed up thing, please take a try yourself ! Patches are very welcome !

Otherwise it will probably take some time until somebody takes care for this bug.

Can confirm. Thunar will wait endlessly on pending gvfs connections.
