Xfce Desktop File Management Errors as Root
Status:
RESOLVED: MOVED

Comments

Description Davemac 2018-10-06 03:37:41 CEST
When running under Xfce as 'root', if you attempt to copy and paste
a file to the desktop, it will fail with the following nofication:

"Failed to activate service 'org.xfce.FileManager': timed out
     (service_start_timeout=120000ms)."

Further, if you attempt to delete a file from the Desktop, it will fail,
or if you attempt to rename a file on the Desktop, it will fail.

You can move a file around, and you can open a folder or a file successfully,
but you can't do anything that involves writing/updating the directory.

It is important to note, that if you bring up a Thunar instance, and select
the Desktop from the sidepanel, you can successfully perform all of these
operations from within the Thunar instance.

Happens under Slackware-current and Arch Linux. Under Slackware-current,
it happens under 32 and 64 bit versions.

Under Slackware-current it showed up when Thunar 1.8.2 was introduced.
