When you open a symlink and change the file, the file preview/thumbnail for the source file is updated and re-sorted (when in order by Modified Date), but the symlink you've selected and changed appears unchanged in both preview and sort order. When you change a file that has a symlink pointing to it, the preview and sort order of the changed file updates, but the preview and sort order of the symlink does not. This is also reflected in the rename dialogue. When you go to rename the symbolic link of the changed file, it shows the old thumbnail preview. To test this simply find an image, create a symbolic link. Open the symbolic link (or the original file) and modify it. You will see the original file re-sort and update its thumbnail preview, but not the symbolic link. You can also try to rename the symlink and see that the thumbnail preview in the dialogue box is not updated. This is just a request to have symlinks update alongside their source file when that source file is modified. Thanks.
