Gentoo informed me that xfce4-mixer has been phased out, but the intended replacement xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin doesn't work for plain alsa. Still using a system without pulseaudio. So no mixer application anymore?
Hi Johannes, bugzilla is not a place for generic discussions. There is no bug related to xfce4-pulseaudio-plugin in your report, as far as I can see. FYI, xfce4-mixer works just fine and is still supported (e.g. it has recently been ported to gtk3) but it relies on an older version of gstreamer library, for which there is no suitable replacement. Just install it.
