I'm using the terminus font and the font settings seem to get ignored at startup in xfce4-terminal 0.8.5. Git bisect points to the following commit as the culprit:

  Date:   Tue May 9 21:42:32 2017 -0400

      Do not change drop-down window size when zooming in/out

(Testing using 'xfce4-terminal --disable-server'.)
