Using (testing) xfdesktop 4.13 here and realized that the "open terminal here" option (right mouse press on an empty place of the desktop) has been removed (or missing). This is a key feature that I commonly use here. Specially if you have more than one display attached and want to open the terminal on a specific display. It would be nice to have that feature back.
That's missing because Thunar isn't ported to Gtk3 yet and that feature comes from the thunarx extension. If xfdesktop links to the Gtk2 version then xfdesktop won't run at all. Once thunar is ported xfdesktop will adapt to whatever changes are required for thunarx-3 and it will be back.
Thunarx has been ported to gtk3 and is available in thunar 1.7.0. xfdesktop git master can use thunarx-3, and "Open Terminal here" option is back :)
