Mouse settings should provide a way to set Palm Detection, e.g.

$ synclient -l|grep Palm
    PalmDetect              = 0
    PalmMinWidth            = 10
    PalmMinZ                = 200

(On a related note, the bottom of http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-settings/mouse#device_properties might want to mention that you have to log out and in again for certain xfconf-query settings to take hold.)
