Steps to reproduce: 1. Click the panel button to open the Whisker menu, or use the "Windows" key (don't know a non-branded name for it). 2. Type application name, e.g. "Firefox". (Different applications behave differently, I think it depends on how they are installed.) (Another application this happens with is "Spotify", but I guess this is not a good example for this issue queue.) 3. Hit Enter to launch the first item in the list of search results. Actual behavior: - After typing "Firefo", the application ("Web browser") is the first in the list. - After typing the last letter, a new item appears in the list: "Run firefox". This is now the first item in the list. The actual "Web browser" is second. Expected behavior: - After typing "Firefox", the application ("Web browser") should be the first in the list, so it is launched when I hit Enter. - It's ok to have other items after that, e.g. the "Run firefox" thing, whatever it does. - Especially, I don't like the first item to be replaced when typing the last letter. The "Run .." does in fact launch the respective application. But I'm afraid it might not have the same starting parameters as the typical application launcher.
Fixed in 2d52bdf.
I am writing the following for record only. If I understand this bug report correctly, I prefer otherwise; for instance, when I enter claws-mail, I prefer to see Run claws-mail, not the desktop application entry of Claws Mail.
@Khazar I think the main problem for me is that I expect this search to be reductive: 1. The more I type, the fewer results should appear. 2. No new results should appear after I type more. Results should only be removed from the list, not added. 3. If an item in the list is focused, it will stay focused until it disappears from the list (because it no longer matches the search query). This "Run .." item breaks these expectations, because it appears when I finished typing, but is hidden before.
@Graeme Gott: > Fixed in 2d52bdf. Oops, missed that one :) What is the new designated behavior?
Before I comment on the last comment of Andreas, I want to write that claws-mail was a wrong user-case, qupzilla would be an appropriate user-case. ---- 1. The more I type, the fewer results should appear. Agreed. 2. No new results should appear after I type more. Results should only be removed from the list, not added. Unless you hit a command by its full name. I think iy would be an appropriate exception, but it is not critical. 3. If an item in the list is focused, it will stay focused until it disappears from the list (because it no longer matches the search query). Agreed. ---- Andreas, I think you are correct, overhaul.
