Created attachment 6524 Screenshot added merely for familiarisation. I have already corrected the "Position:" setting. My left-hand monitor is 1920x1080 landscape. My right-hand monitor is 1280x1024 landscape. If I use xfce4-display-settings to make the left-hand monitor to "Rotation: Left" so I can use it portrait, the setting for "Position: Left of Monitor" changes to "Position: Same as Monitor". When I then change it back to "Position: Left of Monitor" all the applications that were on the right hand monitor are now on the left hand monitor and have to be moved back again. I think there is a bug: when changing the rotation of one monitor, xfce4-display-settings should not change the relative positions of the monitors automatically.
