It seems thunar tries to access every bookmark during startup. If the nfs mount is unavailable, thunar probably waits for autofs to finish, but autofs hangs, and thunar hangs, too. I often forget to turn on my nfs machine.
Thanks for reporting and sorry for the late reply ! Could you please take a try for a up-to-date thunar version, and see if it still is a problem ? E.g. 1.6.15 I tried with thunar master and 1.6.15, but I was not able to reproduce. I have two nfs locations of my backup systems in the bookmarks. The backup system usually is powered off. So far thunar did not hang during startup for me. I dont have autofs installed ... just installed it, but that seems not to change anything for me. Possibly this is a autofs bug ? Can you reproduce the bug with nautilus / or nemo ? As well it is possible that the bug meanwhile got fixed in gvfs-backends ( which is used by thunar to access remote locations ) .. please check if you run a up-to date version of it ! I am running gvfs version 1.30.4-1
Here the related line of my /etc/fstab: #NFS-Mount schwinn-media:/media/DataRAID /mnt/DataRAID nfs noauto,rw,vers=3 0 0
According to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/AutoFS, "The directories to monitor, as well as what to mount on them, are specified in the AutoFS configuration files such as /etc/autofs/autofs.master" You should configure according to https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/AutoFS By the way, I don't use autofs and xfce anymore. I moved to ranger file manager and i3. I also don't use nfs.
Still cannot reproduce .. possibly got fixed meanwhile, or was a gvfs bug, will close the bug.
