I checked the CPU usage of task-manager against the number of cores for the
systems I can access.
In all cases task-manager was set to a delay of 1s.
CPU usage was measured with top.
I found this:

nr. cores %CPU OS
 8 2.5 Opensuse 13.2
12 7.5 Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
24 25 Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

So there is roughly a 3 times increase for every doubling of cores.
