Created attachment 6398 Tray example Proposing a cosmetic fix for the notification area to have icons more uniform and spaces between them even. Looking at it from a designer's perspective it's like a needle poking the eye (see attached screenshot). The following is only a suggestion taken from the Gnome 3 tray, it doesn't need to follow it closely, just create some breathing space in the notification area and possibly add an option to show/hide icons like in KDE.
Created attachment 7192 Allow to display icons squared in systray This patch allows you to choose "Square icons" in settings. In this case all icons will take a square like most of panel plugins. This would look better.
Hi Viktor, would you mind rebasing your patch on top of current master? It currently doesn't apply cleanly (after the gdbus merge). Thanks!
Created attachment 7232 Allow to display icons squared in systray Rebased the patch. I don't use xfconf 4.13 so I can't test it. I think it should work as before since my patch doesn't introduce any new array-typed properties.
Viktor Odintsev referenced this bugreport in commit 5a5cce5244285507f33d02de7cdbbfdc9d1b1373 systray: Add option to display icons with square sizing (Bug #12093) https://git.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/commit?id=5a5cce5244285507f33d02de7cdbbfdc9d1b1373
Thanks, tested and pushed to master.
