The clock face icon is unnecessary, and occasionally confusing.

Including time-out, I have three functional digital clocks in the upper-right of my screen. (current time, work/break time remaining, battery (dis)charge time remaining)

When placed in a vertical panel, the time-out clock face icon is large and distracting. If it was smaller and/or functional, or if I had the option to hide it, it would add less clutter to an already busy panel.

patch to fix #12084

I've written a patch to fix #12084.

This patch adds an option to hide the panel icon.
