Hello, I'm running Thunar 1.6.3 and I can't drag and drop files from HD to devices (from main window to left bar). I can do it from HD to HD. when I drag and drop it shows an infinite tag (or a chain) on the icon on devices and an arrow when doing it from HD to HD Is there a tip for solving this ? seems to be the same for the 1.6.10 https://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?id=9644
Drag & drop is explicitly disabled in the shortcut view devices section, I assume because handling it will make this stuff much more complicated (enabling it would require dealing with reordering the items, which should not be possible etc.). You can temporarily switch to the treeview though which supports this. I have spent some time improving it in the latest version (1.6.10) and it works mostly fine now.
Ok so we know it's not a bug. thanks for answering.
Thanks Harald for explaining why devices aren't allowed to be dragged and dropped. However, disabling drag and drop for that part of the sidebar has an unfortunate side-effect. In previous versions of Thunar it was possible to drag and drop files from the main pane onto devices in the sidebar. This was a convenient way of copying files onto removable devices. In version 1.6.3 this has stopped working. Would it be possible to re-enable dragging and dropping of files onto devices, without allowing the devices themselves to be dragged and dropped (for the reasons you explained)?
So how much work would it be to enable dropping files into devices in the shortcut-view-devices-section? I've had a quick look but haven't been able to find the right area. Please point it out if convenient. I came across this in Xubuntu 16.04
