Thunar should be displaying default/generic icon for unknown filetypes instead of nothing / blank icons because themes sometimes are not perfect. 

Thunar (top) and PCMANFM (bottom) for comparision.

Please reopen if still reproducible in thunar-1.6.6 or later.
