hi, the current direct renaming is painfull, always I want to rename something it gets the "copy of" prefix and the iconview scrolls. It would be much better if thunar would provide a proper rename dialog like the most other file mangers do.
oops I mean the direct copying - sorry :(
Sorry for the late reply ! Meanwhile ( thunar >= v1.6.11 ) the situation has relaxed a bit, since copied files are not prefixed any more, but suffixed. ( I cannot find the related bug ) Like that the icon-view does not scroll to the end/beginning, but only scrolls to the very next item. Just checked nautilus and nemo, they both dont open a rename dialog. Which file manager does that ? I am trying to imagine a scenario on which you dont want to rename a duplicated file, but I cannot tell any. However maybe I am just misssing the use-case. So before agreeing on such a change, I will ask some other dev's about their opinion on it. - patches are welcome -
>Just checked nautilus and nemo, they both dont open a rename dialog. Which file manager does that ? Dolpin/Konqueror they open a rename dialog if you copy something in a folder that has already a file named like that https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KsbgirF4qt_vqSaDHX19-vekqQmIs0Hz/view?usp=sharing also in dolphins settings it is possible to disable inline renaming
Ok, I see. Yes, I think it is desirable. We should as well add an option to disable the dialog to allow mass copy+paste ( I just needed that functionallity to reproduce a bug :P ) If possible we should open the thunar bulk renamer when many files are selected ( this does not work properly with the dolphin renamer )
