Add an ability to display Unicode Control Character and another that would Display Nonprinting Characters. Similar to /View/Nonprinting Characters Ctrl+F10 of LibreOffice.
I guess that should be easy for whitespaces: https://developer.gnome.org/gtksourceview/2.10/GtkSourceView.html#gtk-source-view-set-draw-spaces I don't know if it's possible to draw every non-printable char as Notepad++ does.
